Do you know what it means to be mentally tough? Initially, this psychology was used to help elite athletes perform better. However, over the years, we have realized that being mentally tough helps people from many different fields. Today, we are going to focus on how being mentally tough helps those in business excel and push themselves to the next level. At OLN Inc, we talk daily about ways to prepare your mind to tackle the ups and downs that are apart of business. This ranges from maintaining a winner’s mindset to being prepared, as well as managing your stress levels. Ready to learn?! GOOD!

At OLN Inc, we don’t want you to just have a tough mindset. We want you to have a winner’s mindset! This means giving your goals all that you’ve got, all of the time. Someone that has a winner’s mindset has taken the time to think about what they want to achieve in their career and in their life. They keep this vision in the forefront of their mind. So, when times get tough and trust us they will, they remember what they are working so hard to achieve. Because of this mentality, there is no question of whether or not they will be successful. The only question is when. Obstacles are just stepping stones for the mentally tough, not boulders.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”. Being prepared for your day seems like a no-brainer. However, it is the downfall of some of the most talented individuals in business. Someone that is mentally tough knows that this trait may not be one of their best. So, they prepare ahead of time. Not a morning person? Stay ten minutes late the night before and get your ducks in order. You’re a morning person but tend to get side-tracked talking to your co-workers? Come in ten minutes before everyone else and prepare for your day. There are ZERO reasons as to why you should start your day off unprepared. Be mentally tough and have your day in order, every day!

As a leader in business, there is a lot riding on your shoulders. You are working hard not only for your success but for the success of your entire team. With these responsibilities comes a great deal of stress and pressure. A mentally tough leader knows how to manage these emotions and how to use them to their benefit. When in a high-stress situation at work, let’s say having a critical conversation with a team member, a mentally tough leader will know to take a deep breath and to speak calmly and rationally. Keeping a cool head on your shoulders and not letting your emotions run wild are signs of a professional and trained leader.

The OLN Inc management team demands excellence but is also willing to provide the coaching and training to get team members there. We know that business is tough mentally and that the only way to make it to the other side successfully is by maintaining a coveted mentality.

We have spoken of three different ways of being mentally tough. However, the list is much longer. Our challenge is that you find the ways that work best for YOU! Only you can determine your rate of success, and knowing how to stay consistent mentally will help you along your journey. On your mark, get set, GET TOUGH!
